“Our high satisfaction is due to the platform’s reliability and how little effort it takes to manage. We are very satisfied with the technical quality.”
Marcos Donner, CSO of Agi
Challenge
In addition to being innovative, Agi is recognized as one of the most secure banks in Brazil, supported by a highly qualified team working in its Security Operations Center (SOC) to monitor and protect the bank’s applications.
Ensuring security has become increasingly challenging, as financial institutions register hundreds of thousands of cyberattack attempts every month, and the financial sector remains among the most targeted by cybercrime.
Virtual threats also put service availability at risk. Beyond the negative impact on customers who rely on uninterrupted access, unexpected outages can generate operational costs and damage the company’s reputation.
Amid these cybersecurity challenges, Agi continuously evolves its security practices, guided by regulatory requirements such as Central Bank of Brazil Resolution 4,658 and the General Data Protection Law (LGPD), as well as modern security technologies.
To support this strategy, Agi relies on the Azion Platform, whose security capabilities enable the creation of access control rules and protection against sophisticated cyber threats.
Solution
The partnership between Agi and Azion began in 2018, when Agi implemented Firewall to control access to its applications directly at the edge. Extensible and programmable, Firewall allows Agi’s Information Security specialists to create rules that:
- protect against attacks from the network to application layers (3 to 7);
- monitor, block, and apply penalties based on behavioral patterns;
- validate deployments faster, streamlining the CI/CD workflow; and
- customize rule sets to meet compliance requirements.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, when the volume of DDoS attack traffic increased between 40% and 50%, Agi leveraged DDoS Protection through the Azion Platform.
Azion’s DDoS Protection relies on a globally distributed infrastructure with multiple mitigation centers and a specialized security response team capable of handling large-scale and sophisticated attacks.
To further strengthen threat mitigation capabilities, Agi adopted Data Stream to:
- monitor and mitigate threats in real time;
- send security data to its SIEM (Security Information and Event Management) platform; and
- enhance observability practices.
Integrating Azion’s capabilities into its security architecture also helped Agi optimize contingency systems and operational routines that ensure service continuity even during disruptive events.
Results and Impacts
Since the beginning of the partnership, Firewall has automatically detected and blocked tens of thousands of threats, protecting Agi’s origin infrastructure and ensuring secure access for its customers.
With Data Stream, Agi collects real-time data from security events across selected domains and sends this information to its SIEM platform for analysis and fraud mitigation.
Beyond providing protection and valuable insights for observability practices, Azion ensures 100% of user requests are handled on distributed infrastructure, making Agi’s defensive architecture more robust and less susceptible to risk.
With greater scalability, Agi’s applications adapted to the exponential growth in user demand without incidents, maintaining high performance for customers regardless of device or location.
The Azion Platform has also helped strengthen compliance with regulations designed to protect sensitive information, supporting Agi’s evolution as a secure and reliable digital bank.
About Agi
Agi is an omnichannel bank designed to promote digital and financial literacy. In recent years, this banking model has allowed them to rapidly expand their market presence in relation to traditional institutions. In order to provide an incredible experience for current and future customers, Agi has become a reference in financial technology.
To further this goal, they have created AgiLab, a laboratory that develops innovative technologies using the ASA methodology (Agile Scale Agi), which is based on agile principles. Such dedication to creating its own technologies shows Agi’s evolutionary DNA, which continues to perfect its portfolio of products and services, channels and functionalities, with an eye toward solutions that help customers manage their financial life with freedom, security, and peace of mind.
